Almost six hours of work into winter prep today.
Exterior: Wash, clay, Klasse AIO, Collonite 476 wax.
Wheels: Wheel cleaner, wax
Interior & glass: Wipe down with vinyl/leather protector, vacuum up the pounds of chocolate lab hair, Stoners glass cleaner (you know you’re doing a serious clean when you roll your windows down half way and clean the upper part of the windows that you usually ignore).
What are you fine folks doing to prep for winter?

I want to put sealant on my paint and get new tires.

I’ll be turning the heater on.

I’ve heard good things about sealant. Are you going to get dedicated winter tires, or all-seasons ?

Lifting the Miata and throwing in a tow rope. Tossing an emergency bag in the Volvo.

The sealant isn’t as shiny or nice as wax but it’s supposed to last 6 months so that will get me through winter here in Michigan.
I’d love to get winters like I had on my last car but my all seasons are bad and new ones will get me through winter and the rest of the year. Maybe I’ll get a winter set next year.

Looks good.
Apparently it doesn’t work on North American VWs to press and hold the unclock button on the keyfob to lower the windows, either all the way or until you release the button and vice versa to raise them. So I wash and dry the car, press and hold the unlock button to lower the windows an inch or so, go around all the windows, then raise them via the keyfob and then go around do the lower section of glass.

Got my new garage door hung yesterday, need to wire up the remote opener today, then finish cleaning out the garage. After that I’ll get snow on both cars. And maybe paint the Steelers for the Fit first

The cars have the feature, they just aren’t activated from the factory for whatever reason. You can unlock it through certain programs though.

Don’t forget a folding shovel

Sell my old winter tires

Put the snow brush in, checked tire pressure and switched over to winter windshield washer fluid. That’s about it.

Business as usual for Canadian winters. Undercoating, oil change, clean air filter, winter tires, a really good coat of synthetic wax, rain-x, wiper blades and restore the headlights . Gotta throw on a new serpentine belt too.

Ye’, all the cars have the feature just need a VCDS to activate it.
https://www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/comfort-window-function-with-vcds-key-fob-remote-operation/
Like on your Golf, you can change certain values to give the VW, Audi throttle responsiveness.
I believe it’ s not activated for North America for child and finger trapping reasons.

I park the car and remove battery. Boom winter storage ready

Nice. I always tell myself I’m going to do an undercoating one yer. But I never do.

Thanks!
Ye a, I haven’t picked up a Carista or Vag yet to make tweaks. The windows roll-down feature would be helpful.

My winter prep is much more lazy, swap to my winter wheels and be done.

Nice. How do you apply your 476S? I’m still learning how to apply it without having excess remain. That said, for as tricky as it is to use, it’s my favorite to use.

Well, Ye is out here praising Agent Orange for his power and spouting all kinds of crazy; That was until his wife probably helped get his meds straight.....

I get a small foam applicator, smear a small amount of wax on it right out of the can and put it on one panel at a time.
I apply it thin and wipe it off pretty quickly. If I’m doing a large section like the roof or hood, I’ll break it up into quarters. Apply to a quarter of the panel, remove with a microfiber, move on the next section, etc.
I find that if 476 sets up too long , it’s a bear to remove. They key is thin and remove as soon as it sets up. And it sets up fast.
It’s great wax; cheap-ish, lasts forever, beads like crazy, and easy to apply. I usually only apply it 2 or 3 times a years at most and keep it topped off with spray wax.

Thank you for the advice! What spray wax do you prefer? I haven’t found one I like yet.

I believe OBDEleven will also do it, and I think that is a bit cheaper.

You’re welcome!
I usually grab whatever Meguiars is on sale; U ltimate or their G old C lass spray waxes are good.

Both my FoST and the gf’s cars got a full detail.
Interior: vacuum, interior glass clean, spot clean of any seat/headliner dirt, wipe down, and restoration of any plastics with 303 cleaner.
Exterior: wheel cleaner + drying aid, foam cannon wash, hand wash, clay, fallout remover, foam cannon again, dry and then Wolfgang 3.0 sealant/collinite 845 combo. Finished product for me seen here.
I need to touch up a couple of chips and then put my rally armor flaps on but that’s about it.

Fantastic! Another Collinite fan. Man, the gloss is deep. Great job.
Wolfgang has good products . I need to get some swirls out next spring with their swirl remover.

Thanks! It was ironic to see this post because I had just finished hers Sunday night lol.
I’m going to try jescar powerlock/845 combo next as I’ve heard good things. I really do like Wolfgang though, it’s lasted a long time (sealant and the bottle)
